How we Work: Where does comparegreenproducts.co.uk get its data?

The first step is to find a retailer which sells interesting green, eco or fair trade products. Then we get in touch with the retailer and have a conversation about what we do. That's the easy bit. Then we start to write a short computer programme which scans the retailer's website and can extract the information we need to list their products. Our IT geeks (actually that's Henry!) love it though - it's very satisfying when it works. We use these short programmes to update the prices for the products, check that product links work and update products information regularly (about once or twice a week).
