This is the companion book to the hilarious The Yes Men, a United Artists film released in the States this year. It follows two anti-corporate activist-pranksters as they impersonate the WTO on TV and at business conferences around the world. The story begins with Andy and Mike setting up a website that looks like that of the WTO. Some visitors don't notice the site is a fake, and send email invitations meant for the real WTO. Mike and Andy go along and soon find themselves attending important functions. Donning suits they set out to shock their unwitting audiences with dark comic satires on global free trade. At an international trade law conference in Austria the Yes Men propose a free-market solution to democracy: auctioning votes to the highest bidder. At a textiles conference in Finland they unveiled a 3-foot phallus for administering electric shocks to sweatshop employees. At a university in Plattsburgh, New York, they propose that to solve global hunger, the poor should have to eat hamburgers - and then recycle them up to ten times!
