Adam Weismann and Katy Bryce
2006 p/b

The authors undertook an apprenticeship in natural building in the USA. On their return to the UK they started their company 'Cob in Cornwall'. Since then they have built and restored many cob buildings. The ancient practice has been used throughout Britain for centuries, with 45,000 of the Cornish housing stock made of cob.
This book gives you a wonderful inspiring vision, and at the same time, it is a practical guide to one of the oldest and most versatile of building materials.
It takes a look at earth buildings around the world before the step-by-step chapters on how to build your own. From site and design, planning permission and building regulations, how to mix cob, the foundations, building with cob, roofs, insulation, natural finishes, floors and fireplaces and earth ovens. There are also chapters on restoring and repairing old cob structures, and a comprehensive list of resources and suppliers.
The photographs are really inspirational and the drawings really clear. Just at the first glance of this book you can tell the love their work and life.
As Keith Hall, Editor of Building for Future magazine states 'This had got to be the most practical and beautifully illustrated book on earth ever published!'
