AraVore Babies specialises in beautifully handcrafted organic cotton garments for babies from 0-18 months. Set up by sisters, Norah and Yanina, the company was launched in the UK in October 2005, however work on the production side goes back to 2002 when its sister company AraVore SA was established in Paraguay.
All of the cotton used by AraVore is grown by small farmers in Paraguay and is also spun locally, thus leaving as much of the added value as possible in the country where the raw materials come from.
Each AraVore Babies garment is lovingly hand-loomed, embroidered, crocheted and stitched by craftswomen at the AraVore workshop in Asuncion using traditional knitting methods. Every single one of AraVore Babies products is handcrafted and carries a label signed by the craftswoman who made it, thus creating a direct link between the artisan's work and the child eventually wearing the garment. The notion of traceability is very important to AraVore as is the notion that the artisan's work is properly appreciated and valued
AraVore Babies oversees the whole supply chain making sure that the highest quality and environmental standards are met and that workers are fairly paid and treated along the chain. Aravore has recently started work on a new project to increase the amount of organic cotton that is currently grown in Paraguay by sponsoring a group of small farmers in their transition from conventional to organic agriculture. This project ('Nande AraVore' or 'Our piece of the sky') includes the establishment of a local farming co-operative as well as setting-up a community fund to carry out improvements in health and education in the local area.
